Writing Tips from Kindergarten Part 1: Excuses
I have found, while writing Ashes in between teaching Kindergarten, that so much of what I tell my students about writing and becoming a writer is advice that I needed to take myself. This first installment covers excuses.
When I was 12 years old my favorite book character was turned into a tree to save the lives of her fellow Elves. Damned Terry Brooks doing this to me again 13 years later. This is like Prim/Rue all over again. Grumble humph.

K Math: Creative Math Problems
I gave my kindergarten students homework over Winter Break. Yes, I'll say that again. I gave five year olds homework over vacation. BUT! It is optional and they get prizes if they bring it back complete.
Sat my itty bitties down this morning and asked how their weekends were and if they had anything that they wanted to talk about, expecting a difficult conversation. Instead I got stories about going to get cake with Gramma, playing princess, watching Spongebob, and meeting Santa. Very very thankful that every one of them is ok.
Work, writing, WoW. In that order. BUT: 5 school days left, 2 chapters left to write of Ashes, and 2 weeks off of raiding coming up. Soo... blogging soon? :)

"The weight of her statement sets the silence. We've been prepared to fight the ones who deemed us mutant, the ones who gathered us up and hunted us down, the ones who locked us away in a prison as slaves with a death sentence. Are we prepared to fight the ones that were locked inside with us?" - Ashes, Book 2 in The Maisara Trilogy
