Today was International Dot Day to celebrate one of my class’s favorite books, The Dot by Peter H Reynolds!
It is about a little girl named Vashti that doesn’t think she’s good enough, doesn’t think it is worth it to try, and epitomizes the “I can’t!” I hear so much at the beginning of each year. So her teacher basically tells her to try and she gives all of her sass and attitude back, but she made a mark on her paper in the form of a tiny little dot. Her teacher celebrates it and Vashti decides that she can do a better job than that and sets out to prove it. At the end of the book, she inspires another kid.
We celebrated by rereading the book and creating our own dot to make our mark like Vashti.
