On Tuesday Jeremy and I found out we’re having a baby boy. He had previously been convinced we were having a girl and, though I wanted one going in, all of my thoughts and instincts were telling me it was a boy. We are very happy. On Tuesday Jeremy kept looking at me, stunned, saying: “I’m having a son.”
On Tuesday night he jokingly pointed out that I looked like a whale trying to climb out of bed. It is getting more awkward to move in certain ways and I wasn’t offended. Instead it made me think of one of my favorite kids books, The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. I decided that, if I am a whale, our little boy is my little snail.
Not liking any of the commonplace ways to announce gender, we decided to use the book.
I changed some of the wording to fit the announcement, including photoshopping the image to say “Lift wanted INTO the world” instead of “Lift wanted around the world.”
We haven’t decided on a name yet. We’re trying out one we really like for the next few days to see if it feels right. 🙂
